Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) posted a video of himself holding his daughter, Isla, while speaking on Capitol Hill. He wrote that Isla was “born right in the middle of my Senate campaign” in 2023.
“One of the most competitive races in the country. And instead of staying out there campaigning, I took two months off,” Gallego wrote. “My wife had just been through an unplanned C-section. I wanted to be there for her, and for our newborn because being a husband and a father matters more to me than any campaign, or any job.”
Gallego was previously married to Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego until their divorce in 2016, and the two had one child together, who was born the year they divorced. His daughter, Isla, is the child of his current wife, former Hillary Clinton campaign worker Sydney Barron Gallego.
Katie Miller, a right-wing podcast host, appeared not to have that all straight when she shot off a post on X attacking Sen. Gallego.

“Ruben Gallego served his wife divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant,” Miller wrote. “He then entered into a relationship with a 25-year-old lobbyist.”
Sydney Gallego fired back at Miller and told her to “check your facts” in a scathing post correcting the right-wing podcaster and going after the MAGA agenda.
“Ruben & I didn’t even meet until years later,” Sydney Gallego wrote. “Our whole family has a strong relationship. I wish I were surprised that Katie Miller is lying about us. But these are the same sick people who want ICE to rip families apart. It’s not about family at all.”
