One of President Donald Trump’s staunch allies on Wall Street was hit with a blistering fact-check on Sunday after he made a bizarre claim about Democratic immigration policies.

Bill Ackman, the CEO of Pershing Square, shared a clip of former President Barack Obama discussing immigration policy when he was a senator in 2006. In the clip, Obama claimed “we cannot allow people to pour into the U.S. undetected,” a claim that Ackman used to argue that the Democrats had strayed away from such thinking over the next two decades.
“The question, of course, is why. The answer, I believe, is not a change in fundamental views, but rather a tactical one. At some point, the Democratic Party believed it had a higher likelihood of staying in power if our country had open borders,” Ackman posted to his more than 2.6 million followers on X.
Jon Favreau, co-host of “Pod Save America” and a former speechwriter for Obama, shot down Ackman’s claims with a blistering fact-check.

“Since I worked on this speech, I’ll just point out that this part was left out of the clip,” Favreau posted on X, quoting part of Obama’s speech where he called for “undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows and step on a path toward full participation in our society” rather than being removed from the country, as the Trump administration is doing.
“If Republicans would now like to support the immigration proposals that Obama and other Dems advocated back in 2006, we could actually get something done,” Favreau added.
