The Pima County Sheriff’s Department on Friday released two ransom notes in the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, in hopes that the public can help generate new leads in the kidnapping case.

Guthrie went missing six months ago from her home in Catalina Foothills, a community just north of Tucson, Arizona. Investigators were hoping that by releasing the notes, they could gather more information to aid in her recovery, CNN reported.
Sheriff’s officials announced the update, sharing the notes on X.
“We have your mother Nancy,” the first note said. “She is safe but scared.”
The note included a demand for payment of $4 million in bitcoin, followed by an increased amount if that demand was not met.

But in a second letter, the alleged kidnappers admitted they “did not grasp the seriousness of her physical condition,” claiming she died shortly after Guthrie was taken from her home.
“She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome,” one of the notes said.
