Sen. Bill Cassidy’s showy announcement that he would vote to confirm acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination included a disturbing admission about President Donald Trump’s administration, a political analyst said Friday.

Cassidy (R-LA) claimed he was voting for Blanche despite concerns about “apparent lawfare” and lawsuits against Trump’s political enemies.
“All considered, I will vote for Mr. Blanche,” he said. “I’ll be criticized for this vote.”
He was.
“This is a referendum on Donald Trump’s second term which has unprecedented corruption,” said national security reporter David Rohde during MSNBC’s postmortem analysis. “I think this vote puts our midterm elections in danger and our democracy in danger.”

MS NOW business analyst Ron Insana jumped in to note another concerning takeaway from the Louisiana Republican’s speech.
“If I heard Senator Cassidy correctly, he said that the president will now be in charge of the Justice department and not the other way around,” said Insana. “It will not be independent.”
