The newest MAGA plot to seize control of elections got withering reviews from former GOP chair Michael Steele on Tuesday’s edition of MS NOW’s “The Weeknight.”

The president, Steele’s co-host Eugene Daniels said, “is openly considering new ways to undermine the vote,” as last night, “a far-right radio host pitched the president an unconstitutional plot to seize control of state-run elections.” He rolled the clip of the exchange with Wayne Allyn Root.
“If you declare a national security emergency as the President of the United States, they can’t challenge it. It can only be overturned by a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress,” said Root, saying that if Trump only makes this declaration next month, “we will get photo ID, proof of citizenship, and a limit to mail-in ballots.”
Trump replied, “Let me just say this: stranger things have happened. Okay, I’ll leave it at that.”

This isn’t how any of this works, Steele noted to his panel.
“Can I just start by saying to our audience, what you just heard there was simplistic stupidity, okay?” said Steele, adding that what Root told Trump was “just constitutionally and factually incorrect.” In this blind-leading-the-blind situation, he added, “you’re on a roller coaster to election hell. And that’s the reality that’s been set up for us by this administration for the past two years.”
“We started this conversation at the beginning of this term, warning people that the endgame was to get to a point where Donald Trump could somehow engage in invoking the Insurrection Act, declaring a national emergency so that these 2020 elections could be taken by him and redesigned however he wants,” added Steele.
