Former GOP operative Steve Schmidt tore into Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on his Warning show, as the slow-moving crisis continues to unfold on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln.

Hegseth, who styles himself the “Secretary of War” due to a Trump administration executive order, has just broken a record that was “not meant to break” in the Iran war, said Schmidt: the longest continual operation of an aircraft carrier in history. And it’s having devastating consequences for the Navy sailors manning it.
“A United States aircraft carrier is one of the most dangerous places on Earth to work,” said Schmidt, noting that the “pace is relentless” and now the sailors aboard have been working for 250 days straight. “And now they are breaking. There have been reports of at least six suicide attempts, sailors trying to jump overboard,” all while being made to consume substandard food. “This is what happens when a war is started by imbeciles without a plan, where logistics is a secondary consideration.”
“Human beings are not machines,” he continued. “And in the entire history of the United States Navy, no ship has ever been continuously at sea for 250 days in combat without respite. And it’s breaking the ship. It’s breaking the sailors, their spirit. It’s breaking their families’ hearts.” The blame, he said, lies with “the incompetence and buffoonery of a drunk named Pete Hegseth.”

Hegseth, said Schmidt, styles himself as a killer, whose military “does bad things to bad people.” But, Schmidt continued, “none of the sailors are bad people. So why is it that bad things are being done to them? Why are they being abused by their leadership through their leadership’s incompetence?” All this, he added, while Jeffrey Epstein’s trafficking accomplice gets luxury accommodations.
Trump, for his part, offered a dismissive sneer when asked by reporters on Friday about the well-being of the U.S.S. Lincoln’s crew.
