According to a report from Axios, President Donald Trump’s approval numbers are in a death spiral, with the face of the Republican Party experiencing a stunning double-digit drop among non-MAGA voters in just a single week.
And it gets worse.
A July Washington Post-Ipsos poll showed Democrats have a 10-point advantage over Republicans among voters who say they’re certain to turn out.
Nathan Nascimento, executive director at the conservative group AFP Action, told the Post that one in five base GOP voters are at risk of staying home in November, leading him to blurt, “This is a scary number.”
Recent surveys paint a clear picture of “growing dissatisfaction” within the president’s base. An Economist/YouGov poll released last Tuesday showed Trump’s approval rating among Republicans at a second-term low of 79 percent — a decline of 12 points from shortly after he took office.

The percentage of Republicans who “strongly approve” of Trump’s performance has dropped even more sharply, falling 20 points from 68 percent to 48 percent.
Among non-MAGA Republicans, who comprise approximately 30 percent of the party, Trump’s standing is precarious. Only 51 percent approved of his performance, while 47 percent disapproved. His approval among this group fell 13 points in a single week, Axios is reporting.
Add to that, a Financial Times poll released this weekend showed Trump’s net approval rating among Republicans declined 8 points over the course of a month, which led Axios to report, “Trump’s slipping poll numbers come with the post-Labor Day home stretch just weeks away — when voter perceptions become increasingly baked in.”
