‘Wild’ Trump rant ends in ‘a perfect encapsulation’ of his failures: analyst

President Donald Trump’s rant about drug prices to reporters last week was a “perfect encapsulation” of his administration’s failures, according to one analyst.

Trump lectured reporters about how his administration had lowered drug prices for Americans, waving a printout of a Washington Post article with the headline, “Prescription drug prices record sharpest drop in more than 60 years,” last Friday at Joint Base Andrews. There was just one problem with his prop, according to David Pakman, host of the liberal “David Pakman Show” on YouTube. Pakman noted that experts cited in the article credited a “Biden-era policy that requires Medicare to negotiate prices for some popular prescription drugs” as “more likely” to be driving down costs.

Pakman reacted to Trump’s rant in a new video on Monday.

“It is difficult to imagine a more perfect encapsulation of Donald Trump,” Pakman said. “He sees a flattering headline, and he stops reading.”

I guess they don’t assume that supporters of Trump are going to read any further, and they’re probably right,” Pakman added. “But it is wild that Trump is bringing us the evidence that it’s thanks to Biden.”

Pakman also flagged a “deeper irony” in the rant.

“One of Trump’s priorities, in addition to dismantling everything that Barack Obama did as president, is dismantling the legacy of Joe Biden,” Pakman said. “In this case, a Biden policy gave Trump something he wanted to brag about. So, now he goes, ‘This was all me. I’m the one who did it.’ And this is how the Trump operation of disinformation works.”
