Hannity shamed in damning supercut by CNN’s Erin Burnett over curious contradiction

CNN’s Erin Burnett caught Fox News’ Sean Hannity completely stumbling over his past remarks about the importance of politicians being fluent in foreign policy.

It all came after freshly appointed Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC) was put on the spot about Taiwan defense at a debate and couldn’t come up with any meaningful answer, admitting she’s “not that informed” on national security.

After that disaster and a spate of bad headlines, said Burnett, Graham “was aware she had some clean up to do. So the next day she goes on Fox News’ Sean Hannity.” She played a clip of the right-wing talk show host running interference for Graham.

“So this issue of Taiwan came up last night,” said Hannity. “And I know people have made a big deal about it. And I’m like, I wonder how many people around the country, if I gave them a map, could pick out Taiwan? I don’t think many. And not I mean the whole country, never mind South Carolina.” Graham enthusiastically agreed.

Put aside, said Burnett, the fact that Graham’s late brother, who held that Senate seat for years, was extremely passionate about Taiwan defense and foreign policy generally. For another, she said, “It was not that long ago that some of the very same people backing Darline Graham now had a real problem with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s answer to a question about Taiwan.”

She then played a clip from February, in which Ocasio-Cortez stumbled over her words and could only haltingly say Taiwan defense was “a very longstanding policy of the United States.”

That embarrassing clip, said Burnett, “was seized upon by some, including Trump and Vance, who had a lot to say about her answer … and the very same Sean Hannity, who gave Darline Graham cover this week,” had a very different tune, as she put up a clip of Hannity talking about it.

The host was withering, saying, “prodigal Squad leader AOC simply could not answer basic questions about global affairs.”

Hannity had a better point at the time, said Burnett. “It is important to be able to answer questions about global affairs. If you want to be in Congress or you want to be in the Senate, it’s just a gating factor … but I guess the standards have changed.”
