A resurfaced clip of President Donald Trump went viral online Tuesday as onlookers believed it may have revealed the origin of the mysterious 300,000-metric-ton ground beef shipment the president announced last week.

Last Friday, Trump announced that he’d closed a deal to import 300,000 metric tons of ground beef — the equivalent of more than 2.6 billion quarter-pounder hamburger patties — that would be sold at 25% below market price amid rising beef prices. When asked about the source of the ground beef, however, Trump declined to answer.
While the deal was widely condemned by American cattle ranchers for undercutting their industry, Trump’s refusal to reveal the beef’s origin unnerved critics — but on Tuesday, some believed the president had already given away the answer last year.
In October 2025, Trump told a reporter aboard Air Force One that his administration was considering purchasing “beef from Argentina” in an effort to bring “beef prices down,” using language notably similar to his justification for the mysterious 300,000-metric-ton beef shipment. The potential revelation disturbed onlookers given Argentina’s recent history of shipping potentially health-hazardous beef.
In March, China suspended a shipment of beef from Argentina after detecting the presence of chloramphenicol, an antibiotic that carries rare but documented risks of fatal side effects. Trump has already signed an executive order authorizing the importation of 80,000 metric tons of ground beef from Argentina back in February, and coupled with Congress having mandatory country-of-origin labeling for beef in 2015, countless critics expressed concern.
“It was only five months ago that China averted disaster by rejecting contaminated beef from Argentina,” wrote musician and activist Bill Madden in a social media post on X to his nearly 400,000 followers. “With serial-lying psychopath Trump as president, God help us.”

Former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia endorsed the theory that the mysterious beef shipment was “apparently from Argentina,” and condemned Trump for abandoning the American cattle industry. Meanwhile, multiple American meat companies sounded the alarm over health concerns.
“Nobody knows where this beef is coming from. Nobody knows how the animals were raised, what they were fed, or what antibiotics and vaccines were used,” reads a statement from Good Ranchers, a Texas-based direct-to-consumer meat company.
“This isn’t alarmism. History is just worth paying attention to. In 2013, Europe went through a massive food fraud scandal when products labeled as beef tested anywhere from 30 to 100% horse meat. The package said beef. It wasn’t beef.”
Meriwether Farms, a Wyoming-based beef company, issued a sarcastic warning to consumers earlier this year that remained relevant on Tuesday.
“Chloramphenicol is banned in the US because it can cause fatal aplastic anemia in humans,” reads Meriwether Farms’ statement. “But don’t worry, the US has increased beef imports from Argentina — without implementing mandatory country of origin labeling requirements!”
