Online critics are pointing out glaring oversights after the Republican National Convention posted the schedule for President Donald Trump’s midterm convention.

On Tuesday, a schedule made the rounds on social media that showed that Trump and Vice President JD Vance will headline the first night of the convention in Dallas on September 9, with Trump coming back to headline on September 10 as well. The two-day event has already been plagued by reports of the GOP dreading the event and fearing tiny crowds.
“Going way out on a limb to say this is going to suck,” wrote Democratic political strategist Addisu Demissie in a post on X. “And I actually have some experience in this area!”
“Functionally an in-kind donation to Democrats,” joked author and activist Amanda Litman. “What an act of generosity.”
However, other online critics were quick to point out that the RNC had scheduled its headline events at the same time as the first games of the National Football League season.
“Vance and Trump will both be speaking at 9 p.m., after kick-off of the two NFL games they’re going against,” noted political journalist Nick Field.

“Good luck beating the counter programming,” laughed Will Baskin-Gerwitz, a communications staffer for Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE). Baskin-Gerwitz also posted a picture of the Patriots-Seahawks and 49ers-Rams games scheduled at the same time as Trump and Vance’s headline speeches.
“And these are the tough guys who love football?” responded former GOP Congresswoman Barbara Comstock.
“America has NFL to watch (both nights)!” posted radio host Pete Mundo. “No casuals are tuning into this, and frankly, that’s who the party needs to tune in!”
Meanwhile, Danielle Steitz, director of national security policy at the Progressive Policy Institute, noted a more serious “glaring absence in the program: any mention of foreign policy or national security, topics that Republicans have traditionally embraced.”
She added, “Of course, if I were the RNC, I’d also look to run from Trump’s Iran War quagmire, fracturing of relationships, & embrace of authoritarians.”
