A “mentally unstable” President Donald Trump is growing “increasingly out of control” as he stares down a major reckoning in November, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) claimed on Thursday, a reckoning that could ultimately see the president finally lose his grip on power.

“He is a president who is, in my view, mentally unstable and increasingly out of control,” Sanders said in a video published Thursday evening by APT News, an international news outlet with more than 1.1 million subscribers on its YouTube channel.
“What we are seeing is that the American people in poll after poll are really quite tired of a president who is a pathological liar, who is an authoritarian, [and] who wants more and more power in his own hands as he ignores the Constitution and the rule of law.”
Despite the dangers Trump posed to the country, Sanders argued a reckoning was within reach, pointing to the recent wave of progressive electoral victories in Democratic primary races as evidence Democrats had momentum heading into November.
“We’ve got an election coming up in a couple of months,” Sanders said. “The good news is we are winning. We got a good trajectory — let’s keep it going.”

Sanders went on to further condemn Trump’s unprecedented tenure during his second stint in the White House.
“This guy is a narcissist who would like to name half of the buildings in America after him,” Sanders continued. “He is a kleptocrat, his family, since he returned to the White House, is now over $2 billion richer.”
A wave of progressive candidate victories kicked off in June with the election of three Democratic congressional candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Since then, progressive Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic nomination in Michigan for Senate, and progressive state lawmaker Angie Nixon defeated her Democratic primary opponent despite being outraised by more than 16-to-1.
