Multiple White House insiders have named the same Trump Cabinet member they believe will become the administration’s first “midterm political casualty” and predicted the official will be fired before Thanksgiving, former Obama campaign aide Christopher Hale claimed Sunday night.

“Everyone I talk to in and around the Trump White House says [Defense Secretary Pete] Hegseth will be the first midterm political casualty and will be fired before Thanksgiving,” Hale wrote in a statement shared on social media.
An explosive report from The Washington Post published on Sunday revealed new details about an operation within the Pentagon designed to “amplify Hegseth’s viewpoints” in online discourse, a report that Hale pointed to as further evidence supporting the White House insiders’ claims.
“Today’s Washington Post report makes [Hegseth’s imminent firing] all the more likely,” Hale wrote.
According to the Post, several conservative military veterans with significant online followings had been tapped for roles within the Pentagon, which declined to disclose their assignments. Since their hiring, however, the military influencers have frequently voiced support for Hegseth’s “culture-war fights” and “viewpoints.”

Hegseth has already sparked concern within the White House over his purge of top generals amid President Donald Trump’s deeply unpopular war against Iran, and despite White House officials stating that Hegseth retained Trump’s confidence, questions have been raised about whether Hegseth’s personal vendettas have influenced his firing decisions.
Hegseth has also been warned by his own top military brass that the conflict in Iran is unsustainable, despite his repeated claims to the contrary.
In May, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) told Politico Magazine that before he leaves Congress at the end of the year, he’d “love to see Pete Hegseth fired,” citing the “horrible job” he was doing leading the Defense Department. He also blamed Hegseth for the chaotic messaging surrounding the United States’ initial strikes on Iran, and accused him of having “misinformed” Trump on the operation.
