MAGA pundit stuns with veggie burger pivot amid beef price surge: ‘Actually really good’’

Amid the unprecedented surge in U.S. beef prices, longtime MAGA commentator Bill Mitchell offered his more than 500,000 followers on X a diet suggestion, one that was swiftly met with mockery .

“With regards to beef prices, have you ever tried a veggie burger?” Mitchell wrote. “They’re actually really good. A little lettuce, tomato, pickles, a portobello mushroom, slice of Swiss cheese. Excellent.”

Countless critics noted that Mitchell, who hosts the “YourVoice America” podcast, had previously condemned former President Joe Biden for the rising cost of burgers on multiple occasions, making his pivot to promoting veggie burgers especially absurd.

“I just feel like ‘The Golden Age of America’ wouldn’t include conservative influencer accounts trying to sell us on veggie burger alternatives,” wrote American singer-songwriter Brad Skistimas in a social media post on X to his more than 240,000 followers.

Ground beef prices in the United States have soared amid a severe cattle shortage exacerbated by a screwworm infestation — an infestation that some critics have blamed on the Trump administration for axing screwworm monitoring programs.

Mitchell’s pitch to Americans — that they consider switching to veggie burgers amid soaring costs — was also ridiculed as a losing message heading into the midterms.

“Some real winning messaging here,” wrote Alan Mosley, a libertarian writer and podcast host, in a social media post on X.

Owen Shroyer, a right-wing media personality and longtime host of the now-defunct conspiracy theorist news program “Infowars,” sarcastically called Mitchell’s pitch “the message to win the midterms,” and independent journalist Luke Rudkowski wrote to his nearly 600,000 followers on X: “I swear he’s trolling.”

Podcast host Cole Dodson argued Mitchell’s pitch and similar online posts from MAGA figures “all but cement the downfall of the Republican Party,” and senior political reporter for CNN Aaron Blake sarcastically quipped: “New backup plan unlocked.”

To combat the soaring beef prices, Trump revealed a plan last month to import 300,000 metric tons of ground beef, though refused to say where the beef would come from. Food writer Eric Schlosser warned recently that wherever the beef comes from, it could present a health risk to Americans.
