Journalist Charles Davis<\/u> expressed shock on Sunday at the lack of media coverage on Gregory Bovino, the Trump administration\u2019s ousted Border Patrol chief, having attended what he described as a \u201cneo-fascist summit\u201d in Europe, and just one day after promoting himself<\/u> by making a \u201cHitlerian greeting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust before he confirmed<\/u> his attendance at a neo-fascist summit<\/u> in Portugal, Gregory Bovino, the former U.S. Border Patrol commander who was once the face of President Donald Trump’s mass deportations, posted a photo on X<\/u> showing himself giving a salute familiar to anyone who has heard of Nazi Germany,\u201d Davis wrote in a report<\/u> published on The Redoubt.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be easier to dismiss this Hitlerian greeting as an awkward gesture were it not selected and shared by a man on his way to a racial-purity conference.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cHitlerian greeting\u201d in question is a photograph of Bovino thrusting his hand into the air with his fingers outstretched, in a manner, Davis argued, nearly identical to the Nazi salute<\/u>.<\/p>\n

Far more concerning, however, was the conference Bovino attended, Davis wrote, which was focused on \u201cremigration,\u201d a \u201cfar-right fringe<\/u>\u201d idea promoting the mass expulsion of ethnic minorities. <\/p>\n

The event\u2019s lead organizer<\/u> appeared to be Afonso Gon\u00e7alves<\/u>, a far-right Portuguese activist who founded the far-right group Reconquista, according to The Redoubt, an organization \u201cnamed for the mass expulsion of Muslims from the Iberian Peninsula.\u201d During the event, which took place on Saturday, Gon\u00e7alves made what Davis characterized as an eyebrow-raising remark.<\/p>\n

“Weimar conditions require Weimar solutions,” Gon\u00e7alves said, a likely reference to the Weimar Republic, Germany\u2019s government during Adolf Hitler\u2019s ascension to power.<\/p>\n

Other summit attendees included Martin Sellner, whom Davis accused of \u201cpushing the \u2018great replacement\u2019 conspiracy theory \u2013 that Jewish elites are seeking to exterminate the white race via mass migration\u201d \u2013 and Lena Kotr\u00e9, founder of what Davis described as a \u201cSwiss neo-Nazi group called \u2018Junge Tat.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mainstream right is crawling into the sewer of neo-Nazi ideology, but you probably wouldn’t know it unless you were a right-wing extremist yourself,\u201d Davis wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cEven news outlets that dedicate significant resources to covering the scourge of antisemitism generally ignore it, at least in the United States, when it comes from Republican operatives and retired Trump administration officials.\u201d<\/p>\n
