Amid the ongoing litigation of President Donald Trump\u2019s $10 billion lawsuit<\/u> against the BBC, the president\u2019s lawyers were asked to provide records supporting one of the president\u2019s key claims in the suit \u2013 and immediately lashed out, The Guardian reported<\/u> Friday.<\/p>\n

Trump sued the BBC last year after accusing the broadcaster of deceptively editing<\/u> a documentary that detailed his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He claimed to have suffered \u201coverwhelming financial and reputational harm\u201d due to the network\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

Lawyers for the BBC, after forking over 45,000 pages to Trump\u2019s legal team upon request as of May, asked the president\u2019s lawyers to provide records from Trump\u2019s trust<\/u>, which holds much of the president\u2019s business assets.<\/p>\n

The lawyers were not pleased with the request.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn response, Trump\u2019s Florida-based lawyers Brito PLLC said the request was \u2018disproportionate\u2019 and \u2018encompasses individuals and entities that have no connection to the issues in dispute,\u2019\u201d the Guardian\u2019s report reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey added it amounted to \u2018tens of thousands of documents\u2019 within 30 days, adding the timeframe was \u2018unreasonable\u2026 and improper.\u2019 It accused the BBC of a \u2018textbook fishing expedition.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The response from Trump\u2019s legal team sits in direct contrast, as flagged by the Guardian, with the BBC\u2019s response to more than 500 separate requests from the president\u2019s lawyers to the British broadcaster for records. As of May, Trump\u2019s legal team \u201chad produced none,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn court filings [the BBC] denied it had damaged [Trump’s] reputation as it aired shortly before his re-election, and was not shown in the US,\u201d the Guardian\u2019s report read. \u201cBBC lawyers also argued that as it was not broadcast in the US, or in Florida, the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case. The dismissal claim is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
