President Donald Trump might have just stumbled into a “perfect storm” that could lead to a federal court smackdown against his planned UFC cage match on the White House South Lawn, former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance told MS NOW’s Alex Witt on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

This comes as a lawsuit filed by two local activists, including a Vietnam veteran, details the appearance of corruption surrounding the event, as well as its defacement of public property and violation of multiple regulations and the constitutional separation of powers.<\/span><\/p>\n

That complaint, noted Vance, tears at the heartstrings on top of it all: “I<\/span>f you don’t mind, I’ll<\/span> just read you two sentences<\/span> that explain where we are. Mr.<\/span> Romano writes ‘One of the most<\/span> moving and powerful aspects of<\/span> the Vietnam Veterans Memorial<\/span> is its quiet tranquility. That<\/span> tranquility both honors the<\/span> fallen, the fallen, and allows<\/span> those who have come to pay<\/span> their respects an opportunity to reflect and remember without<\/span> interruption.'”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This, she noted, is part of a “forceful case” that the UFC event will desecrate these sites, which gives them legal standing to challenge it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Can I ask you on a big<\/span> picture level, Joyce, what is<\/span> the point of having rules, of<\/span> having laws that require<\/span> congressional approval if they<\/span> are treated as mere suggestions?” asked Witt.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This sort of brazen defiance of the law, Vance replied, is “<\/span><\/span><\/span>the modus operandi for<\/span> this administration” as they do all they can to “<\/span>plow<\/span> past laws and regulations that<\/span> don’t suit them, acting on the<\/span> assumption that no one will get<\/span> in their way, that Congress<\/span> will continue to be supine,<\/span> that the courts won’t interfere.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Unfortunately for them, Vance said, the lawsuit has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta \u2014 a jurist who has a long history with Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n

“They have<\/span> a jurist who has shown a<\/span> pronounced ability to look at<\/span> the facts and the law and try<\/span> to hold the administration<\/span> accountable,” said Vance. Mehta, she continued, is the same judge “<\/span>who<\/span> permitted the civil case around<\/span> January 6th to move forward,<\/span> finding that the First Amendment might not cover the<\/span> sort of language of incitement<\/span> Donald Trump used that morning<\/span> of the insurrection.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The upshot, she concluded, is “this<\/span> may be the perfect storm that<\/span> Donald Trump fears about to<\/span> take place here.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
