Former Trump administration official Miles Taylor predicted Tuesday that President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cself-serving agenda\u201d may soon trigger a GOP Senate revolt, one that could potentially sink his future nominees for the remainder of his term.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hear a sound coming from the Republican side of the aisle,\u201d Taylor wrote in an analysis<\/u> published on his Substack. \u201cIt\u2019s not exactly the sound of \u2018the resistance,\u2019 but it\u2019s at least worth calling \u2018the reluctance.\u2019 There\u2019s a growing unease among Republican senators about Trump\u2019s self-serving agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where such a GOP Senate revolt may first materialize, Taylor theorized, could be in the Senate confirmation hearings slated for Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who Trump selected<\/u> on Monday to serve in the role permanently. <\/p>\n

Taylor suggested that, much like Trump\u2019s nomination of Bill Pulte<\/u> to serve as his new Director of National Intelligence, \u201csurely some [Republican senators] rolled their eyes at the nomination of Blanche.\u201d Pulte\u2019s nomination has sparked unprecedented pushback<\/u> from conservative voices, a sign, Taylor argued, of an impending break in the status quo.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what\u2019s that sound I hear? Somewhere inside the flaccid consciences of those Republican senators who I used to work with, there\u2019s a smaller conscience trying to get attention,\u201d Taylor wrote. \u201cA conscience within a conscience. He\u2019s squeaking desperately in the dark, while his master turns up the volume on Fox and Newsmax.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has faced an increased number of rebukes from lawmakers within his own party in recent weeks, including last week when four House Republicans<\/u> voted to curb his war powers, or last month when GOP senators moved to restrict<\/u> the president\u2019s controversial $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,\u201d a taxpayer-funded settlement designed to award payouts to Trump\u2019s supporters.<\/p>\n
