A number of Trump supporters are finally starting to grow tired of his act and see him as only out for himself, Bulwark policy editor Ashley Parker told MS NOW’s Katy Tur on Wednesday \u2014 and this is exemplified by his release of commemorative $12,000 gold coins for the UFC fight planned for the White House lawn. <\/span><\/p>\n

“Is this a contradiction<\/span> Trump is not getting in<\/span> enriching himself while<\/span> Americans are struggling?” asked Tur. “I<\/span> mean, does he not see the sort<\/span> of side-by-side?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“The grifting, corruption is<\/span> nothing particularly new for<\/span> this president or for American<\/span> voters to experience for this<\/span> president,” said Parker, adding that he has been merchandising and cutting deals off the presidency to make himself money ever since his first term. The difference now, she said, is that “<\/span>voters<\/span> … including some who<\/span> were part of that broad and<\/span> impressive coalition that got<\/span> him back into the White House<\/span> in 2024, they are less willing<\/span> to give him grace on things<\/span> like this.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

These voters, she said, “<\/span>know how much gas<\/span> costs, they know how much money<\/span> they have in their checking<\/span> accounts at the end of the<\/span> month, or how much they don’t have. They know what prices are,<\/span> they know where their wages are,<\/span> and they’re struggling.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So when these voters see something like a five-figure gold coin for sale to commemorate a Trump event, Parker continued, “<\/span>it now becomes almost a<\/span> physical golden token of the<\/span> way that they feel. He does not<\/span> care about them and only cares<\/span> about himself.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This sort of thing, she said, is also why Trump’s White House ballroom project has been so resonant and controversial. “T<\/span>hese things like the White<\/span> House ballroom, like the UFC<\/span> fight, like these rather<\/span> expensive coins, frankly, are<\/span> such a political problem for<\/span> him right now.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All of this comes as local activists in D.C. file legal action to try to stop Trump’s UFC event from taking place altogether.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
