As President Donald Trump turns 80 years old, an expert in politics and government sounded the alarm Sunday over what they say is making the president \u201ceven more dangerous,\u201d and predicted that Americans had a \u201cfrightening\u201d two years ahead of them.<\/p>\n

Trump has faced growing scrutiny<\/u> over what some critics argue are signs of his cognitive decline, including apparent spells of dozing off<\/u> during cabinet meetings, increased instances<\/u> of rambling during speeches and an unexplained MRI scan<\/u>. The issue, argued Larry Jacobs, who heads the University of Minnesota\u2019s Center for the Study of Politics and Governance, was that Trump’s \u201climited toolkit\u201d compared with other presidents made his alleged cognitive decline exponentially more \u201cdangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe recklessness of decisions, the failure to think in a logical evidence-based way, the acting on impulse, the losing track of reality versus the talking points \u2013 all these things are being accelerated by Trump\u2019s age,\u201d Jacobs said, speaking with The Guardian for its report Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost presidents\u2019 skill set begins to fade as they age; Trump has got such a limited toolkit that it\u2019s putting him over the edge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Examples of Trump\u2019s alleged cognitive decline cited by The Guardian include the president\u2019s \u201cscattergun statements that give Republican strategists heartburn,\u201d statements like \u201cI don\u2019t think about Americans\u2019 financial situation<\/u>\u201d or \u201cI love the inflation<\/u>,\u201d both made within the past 40 days.<\/p>\n

As the number of self-damaging remarks from Trump increase in frequency, Jacobs warned that Americans should prepare themselves for a difficult two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica and the world are in for a frightening two years,\u201d he told The Guardian. \u201cTrump has too much power for someone with so little connection to reality. Age is making Trump an even more dangerous president.\u201d<\/p>\n
