A former national security official during President Donald Trump’s first term sharply criticized his agreement with Iran to end hostilities.<\/p>\n

Miles Taylor, who served as National Security Council chief of staff in the first Trump administration, told MS NOW’s Stephanie Ruhle that none of the terms the 80-year-old president had reached with Iran improved the situation from before he decided to launch the war in February.<\/p>\n

“I’m going to go out there on<\/span> a limb and say that I think<\/span> this is on track to be the<\/span> worst deal in American<\/span> diplomatic history,” Taylor said. “W<\/span>e don’t have the text yet, but<\/span> it’s very, very hard to imagine<\/span> there is a deal here that’s any<\/span> better than the deal we already<\/span> had. In fact, if the initial<\/span> reporting is to be believed,<\/span> the Iranians think that they’re<\/span> on a pathway to get $24 billion<\/span> in assets unfrozen, that would<\/span> be more than 10 times what the<\/span> Obama administration <\/span>effectively helped unlock for<\/span> the Iranians.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“So put it another<\/span> way we’re paying 10 times,<\/span> potentially paying 10 times<\/span> what we did before to get the<\/span> same promise from the Iranians, a<\/span>nd in international law,<\/span> there’s nothing that you can<\/span> say about their commitment to<\/span> not pursue nuclear weapons,” he added.<\/span> “That’s stronger than a promise.<\/span> There is no global police force<\/span> to require the Iranians to not<\/span> pursue a bomb. So all we could<\/span> get, the best we could get is a<\/span> promise from the Iranians, a<\/span> promise we already had and<\/span> once.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor had a front-row seat to a decision that Trump made in his first term that set the war in motion.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>“Donald Trump threw out [the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] in the<\/span> first administration, when I was<\/span> there,” Taylor said. “I can remember the<\/span> frustration of staff when<\/span> Donald Trump did not have any<\/span> plan to replace the Obama deal<\/span> with tore it up, and now here<\/span> we are again, potentially on<\/span> the pathway to unlocking 10<\/span> times as much money for the<\/span> Iranian regime to get the same<\/span> agreement that we had <\/span>previously.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Now, again, the<\/span> devil will be in the details,” he added,<\/span> “but I have a feeling we’re<\/span> going to see the devil.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
