An economist flagged a gobsmacking detail about the recent deal President Donald Trump’s administration struck with the Iranian regime over the weekend that had largely been overlooked. <\/p>\n

Henrietta Treyz, director of economic policy at Veda Partners, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “The Lead” that the Trump administration seemed to be hurrying toward a deal with Iran to end the 106-day conflict. On Sunday, the two sides agreed to a deal that would allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen, which some experts say could provide temporary relief from high energy prices. <\/p>\n

Treyz said that the administration’s rush to the negotiating table signaled to her that time is running out to fix the economic issues caused by the war. <\/p>\n

“The urgency at the<\/span> White House to sign this deal<\/span> before it’s even released to<\/span> the public tells me that we are<\/span> running out of inventory and <\/span>they are running out of time to<\/span> keep gas prices below the $5 mark<\/span> mark, which we’re obviously<\/span> succeeding at right now,” she said, referring to the administration’s decision to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves to stabilize the U.S. oil market. <\/span><\/p>\n

“But<\/span> time is running out,” she warned. <\/span><\/p>\n

Treyz’s comments came at a time when many Americans have said that the cost of living is their number-one issue as the 2026 midterms approach. The most recent economic data showed that inflation has increased by 4.2% over the last 12 months, primarily due to higher energy prices. <\/span><\/p>\n
