President Donald Trump didn’t just fail to accomplish all his objectives in Iran and damage the U.S. economy, former Republican speechwriter Tim Miller told MS NOW’s Chris Hayes on Wednesday \u2014 he also left Israel in the lurch, after right-wing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went all in on attaching himself to the U.S. president.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Something happened,<\/span> which is that they lost,” said Hayes. “The<\/span> leverage created by the closure<\/span> of the Strait of Hormuz turned<\/span> out to be the trump card.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yeah, the war was idiotic,<\/span> is what happened,” said Miller, a frequent critic of the Trump administration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the day, Miller continued, Trump<\/span> “did exactly what everyone<\/span> thought he had done because<\/span> it’s the same thing he’s done<\/span> his whole career, which is<\/span> screw over his partners” \u2014 and Netanyahu should have seen it coming. “<\/span>Bibi thought he was going to be<\/span> the one person, the one<\/span> business partner that Donald<\/span> Trump didn’t screw over. He<\/span> screwed over everybody his<\/span> whole life. He sent a mob to<\/span> kill his last vice president!”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As for the Iran war itself, Miller added, it was “done for” from the very beginning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“A lot of folks at commentary in<\/span> the neocon folks would come<\/span> after us at The Bulwark, like<\/span> the former Republicans, and say,<\/span> oh, you would have been for<\/span> these sorts of wars in the past,” said Miller.<\/span> “And I’m for freedom for the<\/span> Iranian people. But the premise<\/span> of this war was so obviously<\/span> dumb from the start. And he is<\/span> humiliated and surrendering<\/span> right now because he didn’t<\/span> have a good plan and the war<\/span> was never going to work anyway.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All of this comes amid reporting that Trump himself has soured on his support of Israel, in ways that could ultimately boost Vice President J.D. Vance as his heir apparent.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
