Multiple residents of Washington, D.C. told CNN Friday their unfiltered thoughts on President Donald Trump\u2019s $14 million restoration of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool \u2013 and the feedback was scathing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt looks bad!\u201d one D.C. resident told CNN\u2019s Tom Foreman. \u201cI just see green \u2013 green slime.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s restoration of the Reflecting Pool has been just one of many<\/u> of his D.C. beautification projects. It\u2019s proven controversial given that the Trump administration handed the project to a contractor with ties<\/u> to the president in a no-bid deal, bypassing what critics say<\/u> should have been a competitive bidding process.<\/p>\n

After the completion of the $14 million renovation project, blue paint from the pool\u2019s bottom appears to have peeled off<\/u>, and the pool\u2019s water has turned a deep green \u2013 as experts predicted<\/u> it would last month. <\/p>\n

Federal workers have attempted to combat the growing algae by pouring peroxide into the pool, though as of Friday, it’s largely had no effect.<\/p>\n

\u201cPouring all that peroxide into it clearly didn’t help,\u201d another D.C. resident told CNN. \u201cI feel for the ducks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreman told CNN\u2019s John Berman that, after walking around the pool\u2019s rim \u201cover and over again\u201d Friday, there were \u201cvery few places where you can see\u201d any blue \u201cat all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThose people behind you, they’re just vacuuming full time?\u201d Berman asked Foreman about federal workers seen wading in the pool with suction equipment. \u201cIs this going to be a permanent thing, people standing in the pool vacuuming?\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreman said, \u201cThere were more than a dozen of them out here all day long yesterday doing just that, working steadily to try to clear it. What is here is kind of what was here before in the eyes of many people passing by and about as bad as it’s ever been.\u201d<\/p>\n
