President Donald Trump and his allies are barreling toward a historic “clash” with the Supreme Court \u2013 including with conservative justices he personally appointed \u2013 unlike anything seen in nearly 100 years, a legal expert told The Washington Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems like almost 100 years since you\u2019ve had a clash approaching this level between the president and the court,\u201d said Jeffrey Fisher<\/u>, a law professor and co-director of Stanford University\u2019s Supreme Court Litigation Clinic. \u201cYou\u2019d have to go back to the New Deal to have any kind of an analogue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court is expected to soon rule on three major cases involving Trump\u2019s agenda \u2013 whether the constitutional right of birthright citizenship can be eliminated, whether Trump can fire the heads of independent federal agencies, and whether Trump can reshape the Federal Reserve. The justices \u2013 including those appointed by Trump \u2013 have \u201csignaled they will rule against Trump\u201d on at least two of those cases.<\/p>\n

The \u201cgrowing conflict\u201d between Trump and his allies and conservative justices was made evident during a gathering last year organized by Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who was nominated by Trump, the Post reported. During the event, Mike Davis, a conservative lawyer who helped Gorsuch \u201csecure his first federal judgeship,\u201d was \u201cnotably absent.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Post learned why Davis \u2013 whom Gorsuch had previously issued the friendly nickname of \u201cthe general\u201d \u2013 was absent for the justice\u2019s gathering.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe relationship soured last year as the Supreme Court began to rule on some of Trump\u2019s policies, according to two people with direct knowledge of the matter, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue,\u201d the Post\u2019s report reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne recounted how Gorsuch became upset when Davis lashed out at Justice Amy Coney Barrett, calling her a \u2018rattled law professor\u2019 for siding with the court\u2019s liberals in a pair of rulings against Trump. The other said Davis was angered by Gorsuch\u2019s vote to block<\/u> Trump\u2019s use of a wartime authority to deport Venezuelans.\u201d<\/p>\n
