Ro Khanna (D-CA) unloaded on trillionaire Elon Musk Monday morning over his tenure in the Trump administration \u2013 namely, his time leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the initiative\u2019s federal spending cuts that are projected<\/u> to cause millions of preventable deaths.<\/p>\n

Khanna recently appeared<\/u> on the progressive podcast \u201cI\u2019ve Had it\u201d with host Jennifer Welch, during which he noted that a one-time 5% tax on Musk\u2019s wealth would generate enough revenue to fund \u201cuniversal child care for every family\u201d in the United States. Musk responded to a clip of Khanna\u2019s appearance posted on social media Sunday night, calling<\/u> the California Democrat \u201csuch an evil liar.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next morning, Khanna fired back<\/u>, sharing research suggesting that the spending cuts enacted under Musk\u2019s leadership at DOGE may cause 14 million<\/u> preventable deaths by 2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cElon, how about just paying the 5% instead of hurling random insults?\u201d Khanna wrote. \u201cAnd here are the facts, man. Your [United States Agency for International Development] cuts did this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khanna shared a report<\/u> from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health citing a peer-reviewed study<\/u> that found as many as 4.5 million children under the age of five may perish due to the recent U.S. foreign aid cuts spearheaded by Musk.<\/p>\n

Over the past 20 years, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is estimated to have \u201chelped save 91 million lives,\u201d per the report, with USAID-supported programs \u201cassociated with a 15% reduction in all-cause mortality and a 32% reduction in mortality among children under five.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his time leading DOGE, Musk oversaw around $60 billion<\/u> in cuts to U.S. foreign aid, leaving \u201cfew surviving USAID projects<\/u>\u201d after he departed from the Trump administration last year amid controversy<\/u>.<\/p>\n
