Republican congressional candidate Michael Carbonara of Florida took to social media Monday to laud the Trump administration’s “massive accountability” push \u2013 only to be immediately fact-checked for a blatant falsehood in his post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow: [FBI Director] Kash Patel CONFIRMS felony convictions against James Comey,\u201d Carbonara falsely wrote, as was soon pointed out by several critics and X\u2019s crowd-sourced fact checking service known as \u201ccommunity notes.\u201d \u201cThis is MASSIVE for accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Comey, the former FBI director, has not been convicted of any crimes, and instead was indicted in April on two felony counts by Trump\u2019s Justice Department over a photograph of seashells<\/u> he posted on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cFelony \u2018convictions.\u2019 And this guy is running for Congress?\u201d wrote retired Wisconsin sports journalist Jeff Potrykus Monday in a social media post<\/u> on X to his nearly 35,000 followers.<\/p>\n

In response to Carbonara\u2019s blatantly false claim, political commentator Alex Cole declared<\/u> \u201cMAGAs are dumb,\u201d and Travis Akers, a retired U.S. Navy intelligence officer, plainly stated<\/u> that Carbonara\u2019s claim was \u201cfalse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carbonara\u2019s online post \u2013 which oddly included a video of Patel from late April<\/u> \u2013 was also hit with a community note flagging its inaccuracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cKash Patel announced a grand jury indictment of James Comey on two felony counts, not convictions,\u201d reads the crowd-sourced fact-checking service<\/u>. \u201cAn indictment is not a conviction.\u201d<\/p>\n
