WASHINGTON \u2014 White House aides tend to shield President Donald Trump from opinions that diverge from his own worldview, but this afternoon, he got chewed out by one of his fellow Republicans at the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n

After four Senate Republicans bucked the president last night and voted to limit his ability to wage war against Iran without congressional approval, the president aired his frustration with members of his own party at today\u2019s Senate Republican Party lunch at the Capitol. <\/p>\n

But Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) \u2014 one of the Republicans who sent Trump a harsh rebuke last night \u2014 was having none of it, especially after Trump reportedly told him to sit down. <\/p>\n

\u201cI stood and said, \u2018You have not told the American people what’s going on. It’s lasted four months. Our original objectives have not been achieved, and I want to know what’s going on,\u2019\u201d Cassidy told congressional reporters after the heated exchange. <\/p>\n

Cassidy said he\u2019d heard it all before from Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president just kind of talked and talked and talked and talked and talked,\u201d Cassidy bemoaned. <\/p>\n

\u201cI lost my temper,\u201d Cassidy admitted, before quipping, \u201cIt\u2019s the Irish in me.\u201d <\/p>\n

But it seems to be more than the Irish in the retiring senator who recently lost a primary challenge to Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA), a more MAGA-aligned lawmaker who had the backing of President Trump.<\/p>\n

According to Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), Trump was \u201cmad as a murder hornet about the war power vote.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when facing the congressional press corps after the closed-door meeting, the president put on a happy face for the cameras. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think we had a really great meeting, and we\u2019re very proud of the party,\u201d Trump told the congressional press corps after the meeting. \u201cAnd we like the leader, we like everybody \u2014 really in the room, I don\u2019t like a few people, but that\u2019s okay, I think you know who they are. I\u2019ll give you that information someday.\u201d <\/p>\n

Few to no Republican Senators were buying what the president was selling this time. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not a good discussion,\u201d Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) told reporters after the meeting. \u201cBut you know, sometimes two guys just have to get it off their chest.\u201d<\/p>\n
