\u201cIt\u2019s nearly 10 years since Donald Trump had his first meltdown over crowds on the National Mall, insisting amid overwhelming evidence to the contrary<\/u> his first inauguration attracted more than came out for Barack Obama,\u201d wrote journalist Martin Pengelly in an analysis<\/u> published Monday in Zeteo. \u201cOn Sunday, inevitably, he was at it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

He claimed<\/u> on Sunday that 422,000 people were waiting to listen to his speech before being \u201cforced to leave\u201d due to weather, after which, \u201cat least 150,000 people returned.\u201d During his July 4th address, he cited a different number, claiming 375,000 people were waiting to listen to his speech before leaving due to weather.<\/p>\n

As noted by Pengelly, footage<\/u> of Trump\u2019s speech showed what appeared to be far less than 150,000 people. And, also as noted by Pengelly, the president\u2019s strongest supporters, unlike in 2017, left Trump to defend his claims on his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one really cared. Such a damp squib of a controversy \u2013 no Sean Spicer harangue<\/u> this time, no Kellyanne Conway and her \u2018alternative facts<\/u>\u2019 \u2013 seemed about right for Trump\u2019s squalid \u2018Freedom 250\u2019 hijack,\u201d Pengelly wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cSaturday night\u2019s hyped fireworks display turned out dull and smoky, rain falling at the end. The \u2018Great American State Fair,\u2019 due to limp on at the Mall till Friday, has been a sparsely attended<\/u> embarrassment and will in all likelihood continue to be so, even if the press, this writer included<\/u>, will hardly be rushing to go back and check.\u201d<\/p>\n
