Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) revealed Saturday that he had recently been detained<\/u> by a group of armed Israeli settlers and military personnel earlier this week, and one MAGA lawmaker is sparking uproar after siding with Khanna\u2019s captors over his own congressional colleague.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsraeli settlers, brandishing American-made M4s, detained me & other Americans on my trip to Palestine,\u201d Khanna wrote in a social media post on X Saturday, along with video of his detention. \u201cWhen the [Israel Defense Forces] arrived, they sided with the settlers & continued our detention.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Khanna’s detention sparks bipartisan outrage from the likes of both Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX)<\/u> and alt-right conspiracy theorist Stew Peters<\/u>, Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) appeared to instead side with Khanna\u2019s captors.<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds like another plea for publicity. Anything to get in front of the camera,\u201d Murphy wrote Saturday in a social media post<\/u> on X. \u201cWhy else would you be there? It isn\u2019t your country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blowback to Murphy\u2019s remarks was swift \u2013 and bipartisan.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn American congressman is detained and threatened by armed Israeli settlers and his colleagues in Congress instantly side with the Israeli soldiers and thugs who did it,\u201d wrote<\/u> Harrison Berger<\/u>, a correspondent with The American Conservative.<\/p>\n

Independent journalist and video creator James Li called<\/u> Murphy\u2019s remarks \u201cborderline treason\u201d and called for him to be \u201cremoved from office,\u201d and Brian Tashman<\/u>, a political researcher at the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, pointed to what he characterized as Murphy\u2019s hypocrisy, sharing a photograph taken during Murphy\u2019s own trip to Israel.<\/p>\n

Daniel McAdams, the executive director<\/u> of the Ron Paul Institute, called<\/u> Murphy\u2019s comments \u201ddisgusting\u201d and \u201cout of step with the vast majority of Americans,\u201d and journalist Zaid Jilani echoed Li\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis congressman is rooting for illegal foreign settlers harassing Ro Khanna with automatic rifles,\u201d Jilani wrote in a social media post on X. \u201cThis is the closest thing to treason you can get without crossing the line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Israeli activist Nadav Weiman<\/u> supported Khanna\u2019s characterization of the incident, claiming to have been with the California congressman during his detention.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was there with Rep. Khanna as an expert on settler violence,\u201d Weiman wrote in a social media post<\/u> on X. \u201cArmed settlers were the first to arrive, and then, as has become the norm, Israeli soldiers joined them. Together they detained the delegation for over an hour. The [Israel Defense Forces] is lying and not for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Track AIPAC, an advocacy platform that documents lawmakers\u2019 financial support from pro-Israeli groups, Murphy\u2019s campaigns have received more than $100,000<\/u> in contributions from pro-Israeli political groups as of April.<\/p>\n
