Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued an ominous threat Saturday just moments after the United States launched a new round of strikes against Iran.<\/p>\n

On Saturday evening, U.S. Central Command announced<\/u> that a new round of strikes against Iran \u201cbegan launching\u201d at around 7:30 ET, marking the third round of U.S. strikes on Iran this week. In a statement<\/u> published on social media, U.S. Central Command claimed the strikes were in response to Iran striking a container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States is imposing a heavy cost by continuing to degrade Iran\u2019s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the strait,\u201d reads the statement from U.S. Central Command. \u201cThe strikes are being carried out at the direction of the Commander in Chief.\u201d<\/p>\n

Less than 10 minutes after U.S. Central Command\u2019s statement, Hegseth delivered his ominous threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIran made a poor choice. Now they pay,\u201d Hegseth wrote in a social media post<\/u> on X to his nearly 2 million followers.<\/p>\n

According to The New York Times<\/u>, Iranian state media has reported explosions heard in \u201ckey cities across Iran\u2019s southern coast,\u201d as well as \u201cmajor energy centers and Iranian military sites.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moments before U.S. Central Command announced the new wave of strikes, Iranian officials announced<\/u> that the Strait of Hormuz was \u201cclosed until further notice,\u201d rebuking the Trump administration and its demand for Iran to confirm the strait was opened to commercial vessels.<\/p>\n

The new wave of strikes comes one day after President Donald Trump threatened<\/u> to \u201ccompletely decimate\u201d Iran using 1,000 missiles that were \u201clocked and loaded.\u201d<\/p>\n
