Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) Sunday statement updating the public on his health raised red flags for at least one political analyst. <\/p>\n

Camila DeChalus, a CNN political reporter based in Washington, D.C., said on Sunday’s broadcast of “CNN Newsroom” that McConnell’s statement was a “defining moment” in the saga because of what the senator revealed about himself. <\/p>\n

“You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older. Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct \u2013 I can\u2019t help it. But at the same time, I\u2019ve had more than my share of experience with physical vulnerabilities,” McConnell’s statement reads in part. <\/p>\n

DeChalus said the amount of vulnerability that McConnell showed in his statement was “telling.”<\/p>\n

“That’s what made his recent hospitalization this time around that he remained a little bit silent on what transpired,” she said. <\/p>\n

DeChalus also described McConnell’s statement as a “defining moment” in American politics. <\/p>\n

“This is a really<\/span> key defining moment because you<\/span> have this past week where<\/span> the democratic governor of<\/span> Kentucky put out a public letter<\/span> requesting a health update from<\/span> the senator and really lamenting<\/span> about how his constituents have<\/span> the right to know about his<\/span> current health condition and<\/span> … most importantly, whether he<\/span> is still fit to continue to<\/span> serve in office,” DeChalus noted. “And really, in<\/span> this statement, he really does detail<\/span> laying out what he’s been<\/span> through and his path, how open<\/span> and public his other<\/span> hospitalizations were, and why<\/span> he kind of remained silent on this.”<\/span><\/p>\n
