As President Donald Trump prepares to deliver an address<\/u> to the nation Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is readying for a separate event the same day, one independent journalist Ken Klippenstein warned had gone \u201ccompletely overlooked\u201d and posed a major threat to \u201cfree speech.\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House has teased that Trump\u2019s address will highlight election “irregularities” his administration had supposedly uncovered, and experts suspect the speech to be a relitigation of the 2020 election, which the president has long claimed, falsely, was \u201cstolen.\u201d The same day, Rubio will be hosting a summit in Washington, D.C. focused on \u201cpolitical terrorism,\u201d or as was described in a leaked government internal communication obtained by Klippenstein, \u201cfar-left terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the extent that media have noticed the summit at all, they\u2019ve focused on<\/u> the confusion and wariness among some of the over 60 countries invited; but the significance of the term [far-left terrorism] has been completely overlooked,\u201d Klippenstein wrote in a report<\/u> published Tuesday on his Substack. <\/p>\n

\u201cPut simply, it\u2019s a more powerful attack on protest, free speech and the Democratic Party than Trump\u2019s designation<\/u> of \u2018Antifa\u2019 as a domestic terrorist group or [Trump\u2019s National Security Presidential Memorandum 7<\/u>].\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the leaked communication obtained by Klippenstein, the summit is called the \u201cMinisterial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism,\u201d with the phrase \u201cpolitical terrorism\u201d referring to domestic actors engaged in activity labeled as terrorism. The Trump administration\u2019s definition of terrorism has been expanded broadly<\/u> in recent months in a manner critics say targets Americans exercising free speech.<\/p>\n

The summit, coupled with the National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, or NPSM-7, the Trump directive issued last year that \u201cdirects the Departments of State Treasury, Justice and various other federal agencies to prioritize investigating and preempting left-wing violence,\u201d bore all the hallmarks of the Nixon administration’s efforts to crackdown on rising anti-war sentiment in the early 1970s, Klippenstein argued.<\/p>\n

Klippenstein also argued that the Trump administration\u2019s focus on \u201cleft-wing terrorism\u201d was sparked by the assassination last year of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, which officials weaponized, he claimed, to squash dissent.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the Trump camp, Kirk\u2019s killing solidified their thinking that a vast conspiracy existed amongst the left to destroy the nation,\u201d Klippenstein wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir counter to this imagined national security threat has been to link Trump\u2019s NSPM-7 national security directive, the nihilist violent extremism label, and the executive order designating \u201cAntifa\u201d as a terrorist organization into a larger umbrella: \u2018political terrorism.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Klippenstein continued: \u201cOr as I call [it], POLTERGEIST, because the \u2018political-terrorism\u2019 term is an attempt by the Trump administration to summon a ghost from the Nixon years.\u201d<\/p>\n
