WASHINGTON \u2014 The 2020 election just won\u2019t go away, and not just because of President Donald Trump and his primetime address Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Some of the president\u2019s prominent allies on Capitol Hill are eagerly fanning the flames ahead of this year\u2019s midterm elections. <\/p>\n

\u201cWho won the 2020 election?\u201d Raw Story asked Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) at the Capitol this week. <\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump,\u201d the Alabama gubernatorial candidate told Raw Story. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you joking?\u201d Raw Story pressed. \u201cOr are you for real?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, he legitimately won it,\u201d Tuberville said. \u201cNow, they cheated him.\u201d <\/p>\n

While Trump\u2019s pick to replace Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence, Jay Clayton, turned heads Wednesday for refusing to say Joe Biden won the 2020 election \u2014 \u201cJoe Biden was certified as the president of the United States,\u201d Clayton testified \u2014 that opinion is more common than most think in Washington. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s especially the case at the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho won in 2020?\u201d Raw Story asked Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI). <\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Biden was president for four years,\u201d the former chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee told Raw Story. \u201cI think it’s kind of obvious, isn’t it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut a lot of these nominees won’t say he won it legitimately,\u201d Raw Story pressed. \u201cThey kind of use language like you.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe became president,\u201d Johnson replied. \u201cThat’s all you need to know.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAre the results still a question mark?\u201d Raw Story asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are all kinds of irregularities in the 2020 election that have not been adequately investigated. There’s no doubt about that,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cWe have not adequately investigated all the irregularities, whether it’s in Wisconsin, whether it’s Georgia or whether it’s Arizona. We really should.\u201d <\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same on the House side of the Capitol. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe 2020 election \u2014 is it settled?\u201d Raw Story asked Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-MD). \u201cDo you still have questions?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many questions about the 2020 election, whether there were illegitimate mail-in ballots counted,\u201d Harris told Raw Story. <\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think Biden was legitimate?\u201d Raw Story pressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cUh, probably,\u201d Harris said after a pause. \u201cBut I think there’s still questions about mail-in ballots. I think the president is absolutely right. They\u2019re subject to a lot of fraud. More mail-in ballots than we’ve ever had in Maryland. We indiscriminately mailed out mail-in ballots to everyone, including people who had been dead, who had moved, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n

After he faced off on C-SPAN with DNI nominee Clayton Wednesday, Raw Story caught up with Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) to get his perspective on the Trump administration beating the 2020 election denial drum louder and louder these days. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a classic characteristic of a personalist authoritarian structure that admission to the inner circle requires self-effacing recitation of a known lie,\u201d Ossoff told Raw Story. <\/p>\n

The 2020 election is in the rearview mirror for most of us, but it\u2019s increasingly becoming a centerpiece of this administration. <\/p>\n

After sending former DNI Tulsi Gabbard to oversee the FBI raid of the Fulton County election HQ in January, in recent weeks FBI Director Kash Patel\u2019s reassigned 260 FBI agents who he\u2019s tasked with reinvestigating the 2020 presidential election. That comes on the heels of Patel firing agents previously tasked with investigating Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. <\/p>\n

Now, as the midterms near and with President Trump reshuffling his top advisors, Democrats fear their GOP counterparts are preparing to propel election deniers to the top levels of government. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you make of the inability of some of these nominees to say, or the refusal to say, who won the 2020 election?\u201d Raw Story asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Trump dictate, the Trump mantra will not accept anyone saying he lost the 2020 election,\u201d Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said. \u201cIt’s worrying, because it shows their total lack of independence.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Trump\u2019s primetime address Thursday night, Blumenthal says it\u2019s more about depressing turnout this November than it is about rewriting the historical record. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s trying to suppress the vote,\u201d Blumenthal said. <\/p>\n

Sowing such discord into the heart of the American experiment \u2014 free and fair elections \u2014 goes beyond the everyday hyper-partisanship now common in the nation\u2019s capital. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a terrible disservice. We literally have the president of the United States at war with our democracy,\u201d Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) told Raw Story. \u201cHe\u2019s using 2020 as a pretext to attack the 2026 midterms, because he knows he’s a loser.\u201d <\/p>\n
