Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a \u201clast-minute<\/u>\u201d commencement speech<\/u> Saturday in New York to West Point graduates, during which he made the startling admission that the Trump administration could very well be sending those graduates \u201cto war,\u201d and soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, today, we are going to send you \u2013 we’re sending you to lead, we’re sending you to forge warriors, and we’re sending you \u2013 perhaps \u2013 to war,\u201d Hegseth told the nearly 1,000 West Point graduates. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you are ready. The world today is at a crossroads, just as it has been for the past 250 years of our great republic. You are stepping into the arena at a time when the stakes could not be higher.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hegseth\u2019s admission comes amid growing speculation that President Donald Trump may authorize a new wave of attacks on Iran this weekend. Multiple outlets have reported<\/u> that Trump is actively preparing to launch strikes against Iran, and thereby end the ongoing but weak U.S.-Iran ceasefire. And on Saturday, Trump teased<\/u> a full U.S.-takeover of Iran, while also saying there was a \u201csolid<\/u>\u201d chance that by Sunday, he may decide to blow Iran \u201cto kingdom come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The remarks also come in contrast with comments he made leading up to the 2024 election, when, during an appearance on the \u201cShawn Ryan Show,\u201d he said<\/u> that \u201cthe last thing\u201d he wanted was his \u201cson deploying\u201d overseas for an armed conflict.<\/p>\n
