A Democratic lawmaker revealed that the “software glitch” responsible for allowing illegal voter registrations in New Jersey was from a company that is used across the Trump administration. <\/p>\n

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) told CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday that the same company responsible for the glitch also works in federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.<\/p>\n

Gottheimer responded to the news announced by Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill and brought up a serious concern.<\/p>\n

“Our new<\/span> governor, Gov. Sherrill, is<\/span> on top of it, right?” Gottheimer said. “I mean,<\/span> immediately took action, [she] went<\/span> back and said, ‘Where was<\/span> the problem?’ [She] is going to take<\/span> those people off the rolls and<\/span> is dealing with it. But<\/span> obviously, the key is to make<\/span> sure we don’t have these kinds<\/span> of technology glitches.” <\/span><\/p>\n

He also raised how the ordeal had raised further questions about the company’s ties to the government and the Trump administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The one thing that<\/span> no one is talking about is the<\/span> company IDEMIA, which is behind<\/span> this, is the software that<\/span> screwed this up,” Gottheimer added. “[It]<\/span> is actually all<\/span> over the federal government and<\/span> doing work in places like<\/span> the Department of Homeland Security<\/span> on CBP for facial recognition, and<\/span> TSA PreCheck … <\/span>They<\/span> run the software for that. So<\/span> the question is, is our national<\/span> security safe with them at the<\/span> helm? Actually designing all<\/span> this software?”<\/span><\/p>\n

Gottheimer explained that he wrote a letter to the <\/span>U.S. General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget to find out if there was an audit of IDEMIA underway and looking to see if other glitches should concern lawmakers.<\/span><\/p>\n
