Republican lawmakers have remained notably silent about disturbing new allegations against Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), and journalist Prem Thakker suspects he knows why.<\/p>\n

Miller, a 2020 election denier<\/u> and former Trump administration official who scored the president\u2019s endorsement in his bid for Congress, has come under scrutiny in recent weeks after being accused<\/u> of physically abusing his ex-wife. He was accused<\/u> of beating her, holding a gun to her head and throwing boiling water on her, though he\u2019s previously denied<\/u> claims of abuse.<\/p>\n

Zeteo, which Thakker writes for as the outlet\u2019s political correspondent and columnist, did not receive a response after reaching out to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) for their reactions to the allegations, and whether they supported his removal from office.<\/p>\n

Johnson has been pressed by other news outlets for his thoughts on the allegations, but has largely refused to comment on them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t get involved in the personal lives of members and those things,\u201d Johnson told NBC News when pressed on the allegations against Miller.<\/p>\n

As to why Republican lawmakers were so hesitant to condemn Miller\u2019s alleged abuse, or even offer their candid thoughts on the matter, Thakker argued that doing so would undermine the entire party.<\/p>\n

\u201cExploitation itself defines the contours of the right-wing. Consider the list of alleged exploiters. Matt Gaetz<\/u>. Madison Cawthorn<\/u>. Chuck Edwards<\/u>. Cory Mills<\/u>. Pete Hegseth<\/u>. Robert F. Kennedy Jr<\/u>. Elon<\/u> Musk<\/u>. Max Miller,\u201d Thakker wrote in an analysis<\/u> published Tuesday in Zeteo.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd of course, at the top of the tree: Donald Trump \u2013 a man who has been found liable<\/u> for sexual abuse, who has faced an array of allegations<\/u>, and who was dear friends<\/u> with the world\u2019s most infamous pedophile.\u201d<\/p>\n

As such, it was near-impossible for Republicans to condemn Miller, Thakker argued, given that the alleged abuse was not only \u201ctolerated\u201d in the modern-day GOP, but \u201crun of the mill\u201d among its members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe impulses beneath [Miller\u2019s alleged] behavior characterize the broad element of the modern conservative movement,\u201d Thakker wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cAn element evident in every act they take: from bombing children\u2019s schools, to legislating women\u2019s bodies, to policing people\u2019s very ability to exist, to exploiting their individual victims and protecting one another while doing so. Power for the sake of power. Control for the sake of control. The imposition of one\u2019s will over another, with no fear or expectation of accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n
