Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) hit back at attacks from President Donald Trump on Friday, publicly calling him out for taking bad advice on a “bogus settlement” from “an incompetent personal advisor.”<\/p>\n

The Republican lawmaker \u2014 who joins Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in demanding Trump commit to ending his Anti Weaponization Fund or see acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s confirmation voted down \u2014 posted his outrage on X.<\/p>\n

“While I never disagreed that the Biden Administration pursued a number of vindictive prosecutions related to January 6, the criminals who assaulted police officers and defiled our nation\u2019s Capitol are not ‘great American patriots’ who are ‘victims of government abuse,'” wrote Tillis.<\/p>\n

“Anyone who attacked law enforcement should still be in prison, not getting a check from the federal government.”<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Trump lashed out at Cornyn and claimed Jan. 6 rioters had been “hunted down like dogs.” <\/p>\n

\u201cJohn Cornyn never had a problem with the so called \u2018Fund,\u2019 which will not benefit me, but rather the great American Patriots who were hunted down like dogs,\u201d Trump wrote<\/u> on Truth Social. <\/p>\n

Tillis and Cornyn, both outgoing Republicans, met with Blanche behind closed doors on Thursday to discuss the fund. Meanwhile, Trump said he’d consider withdrawing Blanche’s nomination.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Tillis said all this turmoil was caused by a Trump insider he did not name.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a shame his confirmation has hit a snag only because an incompetent personal advisor to the President refuses to amend the bogus settlement,” Tillis wrote. <\/p>\n

“I will continue working in good faith to put an end this legal and political albatross and prevent any potential misallocation of taxpayer dollars.”<\/p>\n
