Mike Huckabee, the Trump administration\u2019s ambassador to Israel, lashed out Saturday at Hollywood icon Javier Bardem after the Spanish actor pushed back against narratives promoted by the Trump administration and right-wing<\/u> figures surrounding the recent Moroccan refugee crisis<\/u> in a Spanish territory in Africa.<\/p>\n

As many as 60,000 migrants crossed into Ceuta, Spain’s North African enclave, from Morocco starting Thursday, in one of the largest border breaches in the territory’s history. At least 48,300<\/u> \u201chad returned to Morocco by Friday afternoon,\u201d The New York Post reported, and at least 60<\/u> people had died trying to enter the Spanish territory.<\/p>\n

Right-wing figures such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk<\/u> and President Donald Trump<\/u> have seized on the crisis to bolster their anti-immigration positions, and on Friday, Bardem pressed back on their characterization of the incident by sharing an online post on Instagram, according to<\/u> British author and television personality Oli London.<\/p>\n

\u201cCeuta is in Africa, not Europe. This isn\u2019t an \u2018invasion\u2019 of the West \u2013 if anything it\u2019s the reverse, given Morocco functions increasingly as a Western-aligned client state,\u201d reads the post shared by Bardem Friday.<\/p>\n

The post shared by Bardem was written by author and columnist Miranda Vidak<\/u>, who went on to admit that while she didn\u2019t \u201cknow who engineered this crisis,\u201d Israel \u2013 which Spain has increasingly criticized<\/u> on the world stage for its military bombardment of Gaza \u2013 stood to \u201cbenefit from a weakened, destabilized Spain.\u201d She also flagged online comments<\/u> from Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he called on \u201cArabs and Muslims\u201d to liberate Spanish territories in Africa, including Ceuta.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has nothing to do with Islam \u2018invading\u2019 Europe, and everything to do with punishing the loudest European government still willing to call a genocide a genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huckabee, among the most pro-Israeli figures in the Trump administration who said it would be \u201cfine\u201d if Israel \u201ctook\u201d over portions of several Middle East countries, was not pleased with Bardem\u2019s online activity.<\/p>\n
