President Donald Trump hyped up a planned U.S. attack on Iran Saturday night \u2013 one with \u201cpower not seen since World War II\u201d \u2013 before revealing he\u2019d called off the attack citing a new agreement with the Middle East nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters [sic] of a deal has been agreed to,\u201d Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran\u2019s nuclear threat. Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump administration and Israeli officials were reportedly considering launching what would be \u201cone of the harshest bombing campaigns to date\u201d targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, multiple inside sources told CBS News<\/u>. Trump\u2019s claim of being asked by \u201cother Middle Eastern countries\u201d aligns with Axios\u2019 reporting Saturday that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had privately pleaded<\/u> with Trump Saturday to hold off on the attack.<\/p>\n

Trump has insisted countless times<\/u> that the Strait of Hormuz \u2013 the crucial shipping waterway through which 20% of the world\u2019s oil trade historically flowed \u2013 was \u201copen,\u201d despite evidence to the contrary. His announcement Saturday marks the latest instance of Trump claiming as such.<\/p>\n
