Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who\u2019s been accused<\/u> by his ex-wife in court filings of violent abuse, announced<\/u> Saturday evening that he would make a “special announcement” on X Sunday morning, prompting countless onlookers to speculate he was about to resign.<\/p>\n

Recent reports have unearthed disturbing accusations leveled against Miller, including allegations that he physically abused his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH). <\/p>\n

Court records include allegations that Miller beat his ex-wife, held a gun to her head, threw boiling water on her and their 2-year-old daughter, potentially breaking her collarbone<\/u>. Miller has previously denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

The accusations surfaced as Miller runs for reelection and spurred fears among Republicans that his campaign could lose them the House. <\/p>\n

Republicans have until Aug. 5 to replace Miller \u2014 if they opt to do so, Politico reported Saturday. <\/p>\n

Miller\u2019s announcement, made on X, sparked both speculation about a potential resignation and outright calls for him to step down.<\/p>\n

\u201cResigning?\u201d asked<\/u> journalist and commentator Molly Jong-Fast.<\/p>\n

Brandon Wolf, a civil rights advocate<\/u> and survivor of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Florida wrote<\/u> to Miller: \u201cBetter be your resignation.\u201d Journalist Wajahat Ali also urged<\/u> Miller to resign, accusing him of being a \u201cwife beater and child abuser.\u201d Democratic strategist Ally Sammarco also joined in on the calls for Miller to step down.<\/p>\n

\u201cResign, you freak,\u201d Sammarco wrote<\/u>. \u201cI\u2019m not going to stop talking about this until you\u2019re gone, so might as well save yourself some embarrassment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics have noted the public silence<\/u> of Sen. Moreno regarding his daughter\u2019s alleged abuser, with the Republican senator refusing to say whether he believes Miller should be ousted from office. Citing alleged text messages referenced in court filings, Mother Jones reported<\/u> earlier this month that Miller had \u201cimplicitly threatened\u201d his ex-father-in-law.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake this however you want, everyone is going to get to know you better than your wife does,\u201d Miller allegedly wrote to Moreno, according to Mother Jones. \u201cEnjoy the ride brother, I wouldn\u2019t have to do this if you could keep your lying daughter under control.\u201d<\/p>\n

That allegation, combined with reporting<\/u> that someone with access to Sen. Moreno’s email created an account on a “casual sexual encounters website” seeking “Men for 1-on-1 sex,” has led some \u2013 including Sammarco \u2013 to theorize<\/u> that Miller “has some dirt<\/u>” on his ex-father-in-law and is using that leverage to keep him quiet.<\/p>\n
