A public meeting where embattled U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro was set to face D.C. residents over violent crime was abruptly canceled at the last minute Monday, with organizers offering no explanation and no new date.<\/p>\n

According to NOTUS, Pirro and interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll were scheduled to appear together at a rare joint public meeting to discuss crime trends. The event’s cancellation came with little explanation from its organizer, the District’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC). It wasn’t the first delay: the meeting had originally been set for June before being postponed, and this time the CJCC made no commitment to reschedule.<\/p>\n

CJCC spokesperson Margarita Mikhaylova told NOTUS the council did “not have additional information to share” about the cancellation, adding, “Our focus now is on determining the best approach for future public engagement.” A spokesperson for Pirro referred questions about the event back to the CJCC.<\/p>\n

According to the report, the scrapped meeting lands amid a rough stretch for Pirro.<\/p>\n

“The public event was sure to be a minefield at a time when a crime statistics scandal is roiling the D.C. police department, an ongoing surge in federal law enforcement and National Guard deployment has outraged city activists, and Pirro\u2019s recent spat with President Donald Trump has made headlines and raised questions about whether she\u2019ll keep her job,” NOTUS is reporting<\/p>\n

Free D.C., an anti-Trump activist group, had urged residents to turn out and confront officials at the meeting. “It seems pretty clear that they don’t actually want to hear from D.C. residents,” said Free D.C. co-founder Alex Dodds.<\/p>\n
