President Donald Trump seems to have dispatched his “secret weapon” in hopes of staving off the one thing he is terrified of happening, according to one expert. <\/p>\n

David Rothkopf, global affairs columnist for The Daily Beast and a former international trade official in the Clinton White House, argued during a new episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast” that Jared Kushner’s secret meeting with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) signals that Trump is terrified of being impeached again. Kushner wouldn’t have met with Jeffries unless the White House is preparing for Democrats to regain control of the House of Representatives after the midterms. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think Trump\u2019s terrified,\u201d Rothkopf said. \u201cJust as he sends Jared to deal with the Iranians and Jared to deal with the Russians, when he\u2019s got some big issue, he sends Jared.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, has been a central figure in the administration even though he doesn’t hold an official government job. Kushner has worked with special envoy Steve Witkoff on a number of international issues, including peace negotiations to end the war against Iran, which is weighing on Trump’s approval rating. <\/p>\n

Outside of diplomatic work, Kushner also seems to have a more personal job within the Trump White House. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe really doesn\u2019t want to be impeached again. There are a lot of Democrats who are like, what\u2019s the point? But I think Trump sees the point,\u201d Rothkopf said. \u201cHe knows how devastating that would be to his administration, to his reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n
