Republican candidates who embraced President Donald Trump during their primaries are now beginning to view him as an \u201canchor\u201d as they pivot toward the upcoming midterm elections, progressive commentator David Pakman argued Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat changed is they are realizing Trump is like an anchor for them, and they can ride that anchor to the bottom of the ocean,\u201d Pakman said.<\/p>\n

The host of the \u201cDavid Pakman Show\u201d pointed to Ralph Alvarado, the Trump-backed GOP nominee in a Kentucky congressional district, whose campaign removed prominent references to the president from portions of its website.<\/p>\n

During the primary, Alvarado\u2019s website featured a photograph of him alongside Trump and declared, \u201cPresident Trump needs more allies in Congress to deliver on his bold vision. I will be that fighter,\u201d according to screenshots retained by Pakman and displayed on his YouTube show Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe mention of Trump \u2014 removed like a miracle \u2014 it\u2019s gone,\u201d Pakman said.<\/p>\n

The message has since been replaced with a statement about health care.<\/p>\n

A photograph of Alvarado standing beside Trump also vanished from his campaign\u2019s website and was replaced with an image identifying the MAGA candidate as a \u201cChristian, husband, father and physician.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd all of a sudden there’s no mention of being alongside Trump. And the picture of him with Trump is also gone,\u201d Pakman told listeners.<\/p>\n

Pakman argued that Trump has become \u201ca liability.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so what do you do? You Photoshop him out of the campaign. The picture with Trump is gone. The mentions of Trump are gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The liberal commentator concluded that while Republican candidates may have relied on Trump to get them through their primaries, they must now attract voters \u201cwho can\u2019t stand Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can delete mentions of Trump,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can change the pictures, but your record doesn\u2019t change.\u201d<\/p>\n
