Don Bacon (R-NE) and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) introduced bipartisan legislation Monday that would restore press access to areas of the Pentagon that were open to reporters before restrictions imposed under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA free press makes our country better, and the new Pentagon media restrictions are not wise,\u201d Bacon said. \u201cI was stationed at the Pentagon twice and saw firsthand that credentialed reporters had access to hallways, cafeterias and designated press areas, not offices or classified areas with sensitive national security information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Bacon and Jacobs, the legislation would restore reporters\u2019 access to areas including the \u201cCorrespondents\u2019 Corridor\u201d and renew unescorted access to previously accessible parts of the building, among other reforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuzzling the Pentagon\u2019s independent press corps blinds Congress and the American people to what\u2019s happening in our name and with our money,\u201d Jacobs said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/propertyrelocationusa.com\/?p=7146\">\u2018Drowsy Don\u2019 mocked after appearing to sleep at Oval Office love fest: \u2018Grandpa is cooked\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout transparency, the American people can\u2019t trust they\u2019re getting the truth, not propaganda, or that the military is following the rule of law,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The bipartisan push comes amid fresh scrutiny of the Trump administration\u2019s treatment of the press. <\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department on Monday denied credentials to individual reporters from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News for this week\u2019s G20 finance meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, according to media reports.
