President Donald Trump\u2019s $1.7 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund<\/u>\u201d is even more disliked among voters than previously known, according to new internal GOP polling that has circulated among prominent GOP organizations \u201cin recent days,\u201d sending several Republican operatives into an all-out panic, Zeteo reported<\/u> Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis could really f— us,\u201d a \u201cwell-connected national GOP consultant\u201d told Zeteo, speaking on the condition of anonymity. \u201cWhy do you think everyone\u2019s so upset?\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d was established after Trump agreed to drop his $10 billion lawsuit<\/u> against the Internal Revenue Service in exchange for a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded settlement<\/u>, the money of which would be paid out to those who claim to have been unfairly targeted by the Biden administration\u2019s Justice Department.<\/p>\n

The fund \u2013 which violent Jan. 6 Capitol rioters convicted of assaulting police officers would be eligible<\/u> to receive payments from \u2013 had triggered an unprecedented revolt<\/u> among GOP lawmakers, and according to the internal polling revealed to Zeteo by “multiple sources,\u201d it’s also deeply unpopular among voters, and to such an extent that it could do real harm to Republicans\u2019 electoral prospects.<\/p>\n

\u201cFar too many Americans now view President Trump as corrupt, and that is going to be a significant hurdle for Republicans this year at a time when the voters want to be hearing about how you are making life easier and cheaper for them or how you\u2019re making the country safe \u2013 not about a f—— ballroom,\u201d said a former Trump administration official familiar with the internal polling, speaking with Zeteo on the condition of anonymity. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis fund business just adds to that perception. And Donald Trump isn\u2019t the one whose name is on the ballot this year, so he\u2019s not going to be the one who really loses from his decisions or rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Trump\u2019s claim that he \u201cwasn\u2019t involved\u201d in the creation of the controversial fund, he was, in fact, \u201cdeeply involved,\u201d as Zeteo has previously documented<\/u>.<\/p>\n
