The decision by the Department of Justice to open up an investigation of writer E. Jean Carroll, who proved that Donald Trump not only sexually abused her but also defamed her afterwards, has some DOJ insiders cringing.<\/p>\n

Add to that, a former Southern District of New York (SDNY) prosecutor called the potential perjury case, based upon early reports, to be a legal non-starter.<\/p>\n

Appearing with MS NOW host Ana Cabrera, reporter Ken Dilanian said, \u201cLook, frankly, we have to acknowledge that this is the latest example of Donald Trump\u2019s Justice Department retribution campaign; criminal investigations that seem to be very marginal, very narrow, aimed at essentially his political enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can\u2019t be a coincidence that all of these people are on the wrong side of Donald Trump and find themselves under criminal investigations,\u201d he added. \u201cWe have never seen this in the Justice Department, and it has a lot of people in the DOJ concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former prosecutor Kristy Greenberg agreed and said there was good reason for DOJ officials to keep their distance.<\/p>\n

Stating that the judge in Carroll’s 2022 Trump case saw no reason to doubt her credibility over comments made about the financing of her lawsuit \u2014 which Trump’s perjury investigation is focusing on \u2014 Greenberg asserted, \u201cThe judge has already determined this wasn’t material. So the idea that prosecutors would now think this was material enough to bring to a grand jury is absolutely absurd. It should be dead on arrival. This is not a legitimate perjury case.\u201d<\/p>\n
