President Donald Trump got his chosen candidate in the U.S. Senate race in Georgia, where Rep. Mike Collins clinched the nomination last night — and he plans to go all in on supporting him.

In the same post where the president trashed incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and came up with an obscene nickname for him, Trump vowed that he will be holding campaign rallies in the state to help Collins, saying, “I’ll be doing Big TRUMP Rallies for Mike in Georgia!”
This earned a wave of mockery from commenters on social media, as although Trump narrowly carried the state in 2024, he isn’t popular there in current polls, and his presence would likely just drag down the Republican ticket there.
“Jon Ossoff just ordered another bottle of scotch,” wrote The Independent’s Eric Michael Garcia, adding that Trump rallies would be “Risky no doubt. Collins is already considered very right wing and Trump is underwater in Georgia.”

“LMAO yeah sure, bring out the super unpopular president in the middle of a race,” wrote the Polling USA account. “Even Bush knew better than this.”
“‘Please don’t throw me in that brier patch.’ – Jon Ossoff,” wrote Middle Georgia University professor Christopher Lawrence — a reference to the story of Brer Rabbit.

“Ossoff might win by double digits,” wrote political analyst Andrew Donaldson.
