Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) broke his silence Sunday regarding allegations that his daughter had been physically abused by her ex-husband, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), calling his own Republican colleague a “danger to my daughter.”

Shared on social media, Moreno’s statement comes just over an hour after Miller denied the allegations leveled against him in a lengthy video, which include beating his ex-wife, throwing boiling water on her and breaking his 2-year-old daughter’s collarbone.
“He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter,” wrote Moreno. “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”
Moreno explained his reasons for demanding Miller’s departure stemmed from his own for taking public office.
“I wanted to make a difference for the country that gave me every opportunity to succeed, and to leave this nation better for my children and grandchildren,” he said. “That sacrifice has been especially hard on my wife Bridget, whose big heart and steady support have never wavered. I owe it to her, to Emily, and to my granddaughter to speak the truth now.”
Miller quickly clapped back at Moreno on social media.
“You know this isn’t true and the only reason you are speaking out now is to hide from your own media circus,” Miller wrote. “This is all political.”

No criminal charges have been filed against Miller, who continues to deny the allegations. Moreno’s daughter and Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, recently filed a restraining order against Miller, alleging that he physically grabbed one of her attorneys, The Washington Post reported.
Until Sunday, Moreno remained notably silent on the allegations of abuse against Miller, and refused to say whether he should resign from Congress.
“I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible,” Moreno said Sunday.
“It has been horrific to watch this play out in full public view, all while knowing an innocent two-year-old girl is caught in the middle.”
