Democrats on the House Oversight Committee promoted a theory Friday that may explain why GOP leaders abruptly cut the House’s legislative calendar short by two weeks.

The House was “previously scheduled to remain in session” through the end of this month, but on Thursday, GOP leaders announced that the final two weeks of session, scheduled for the end of September, had been canceled.
Also on Thursday, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) slammed Republican leaders over the schedule change and accused it of being an “attempt to stymie our latest Epstein bill.” Massie recently filed a successor to the Epstein Files Transparency Act [EFTA] designed to address gaps in his original legislation that have stalled states’ probes into Epstein and potential co-conspirators.
On Friday, self-described political analyst and logistics supply chain specialist Dominic Michael Tripi claimed to have obtained an internal House GOP memo issuing guidance for members to address the surprise schedule change. While the content of the memo has yet to be verified, Tripi described the memo as House Republicans “scrambling” to explain the schedule change, which he characterized as a ploy to “avoid [voting] on additional Epstein files release.”
The official X account for Democrats on the House Oversight Committee shared Tripi’s online post, and added their own colorful commentary.

“Everything the Republicans do involves protecting billionaires and predators?” reads a post from the House Oversight Democrats.
Specifically, Massie’s follow-up to the EFTA seeks to address instances of the Justice Department [DOJ] stonewalling states’ own probes into Epstein and potential co-conspirators. New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez sued the DOJ after accusing them of withholding files his office requested to help in its own probe into the convicted child sex abuser.
Under the proposed legislation, the U.S. attorney general would be forced to cooperate with state attorneys general who want to prosecute potential Epstein-conspirators. Additionally, the bill would prohibit the DOJ from citing privilege exceptions as grounds to withhold Epstein-related files, a tactic the department has repeatedly employed.
